Blankets

by Craig Thompson

Lowdown: Really liked it.

I identified a lot with this auto-biographical story about first love. Being a teenager, feeling so many things for the first time, is pretty intense. This book is never sappy, frequently poignant, and beautifully illustrated.

One of the many celebrity quotes endorsing Blankets is from Neil Gaiman, who describes it as “painfully honest.” That sums it up perfectly. There aren’t any embellishments or melodrama. Everything feels very real. A very refreshing read.
