About the Site

Splattered Bits is a place where your author can expound, exhort, cajole, convince, argue, and prattle on about the art of writing and engineering software.

Where does the name “Splattered Bits” come from? One day at work, our President, Charlie, shouted out from his office/conference room (we were a startup company so tried to utilize space the best we could) that he was having problems with his PowerBook. When we tried to dig further (while shouting to each other from either side of the office), he just said, “I don’t know. All I’ve got on my screen are a bunch of splattered bits.”

After we determined we didn’t know what was going on, I realized that the phrase “splattered bits” made a pretty good title for something.

Blogs started coming into vogue a short time later, and I decided Splattered Bits was a pretty good name. After an initial attempt at combining writing about software and my personal life, I relaunched the site to focus exclusively on software and the engineering thereof.
